This delightful cottage was converted in 1996 from the old cider barn and designed specially to be wheel chair friendly. It is particularly bright and airy with extra light thrown by three large skylights. Although there is good access and plenty of room for wheel-chair users (in most respects the facilities satisfy Category 1 of the National Accessible Accommodation Standard) we believe that the cottage is best suited for a disabled person visiting with a carer. The area is well provided with places to visit. There is good access for wheel chair users onto Carne and Pendower beaches nearby and activities such as Bird watching at Ruanlanihorne and St Anthony (a bird hide is provided by the NT with wheel chair access) are possible.
The main accommodation is on the ground floor, which has easy access to the car park with ramps for wheel chair access. Galleried studio (21ft x 13ft) with comfortable sofa and chairs around wood-burning stove. Open plan kitchen/dining area overlooks a paved patio with garden furniture. Twin bedroom with shower room/WC adjacent. Double and single bedded room with en-suite shower(tub) room/WC.. French windows opening onto garden. Additional accommodation suitable for children (low headroom) in gallery.
All the accommodation is on the ground floor, there are no steps within the accommodation.
There is level access to the living room with an inward opening door of 89cms. The floor surface is carpet or lino, and there is space for a wheelchair to manoeuvre. The height of the door knobs are 93cms, light switches 11 7cms, and electric sockets 50 cms.
There is level access into the kitchen, which has an inward opening door of 89cms. There is space for a wheelchair to manoeuvre. The height of the work surfaces is 91 cms, but taps and and base of wall units are above category 1 requirements. Cooker controls and hobs can be reached but are above standard height.
There are two bedrooms on the ground floor sleeping 4 in 2 x twin beds. The bedroom door is inward opening with a width of 89 cms. There is level access into all the bedrooms on the entrance floor. The floor surfaces are carpeted. There is space for a wheelchair to manoeuvre in the bedrooms, and a wheelchair user would be able to approach at least one side of the bed.
