This delightful country cottage in a peaceful rural setting, with stunning sea views towards Kennack Sands and over Goonhilly Downs is close to the picturesque village of Coverack at the head of the Lizard Peninsula. The nearest beach is ¾ of a mile.

The Lizard is one of most attractive holiday areas in Cornwall, with its unspoilt moorland; a paradise for bird lovers and naturalists where many species of wild flowers flourish in its temperate climate; its delightful harbours and sandy coves, and some of the best coastal walks in the West Country; explore the cliffs and coves of the Lizard and the creeks and around the lanes of St. Anthony, Manaccan and Gillan. The whole area is home to a thriving artistic community. There are excellent pubs, restaurants and shops (including a butcher) in St. Keverne 3 miles. The Helford River a magnificent safe sailing centre and the picturesque village of Gweek, with its seal sanctuary, are within 15 minutes drive. Helston with a full range of shops is 8 miles. Further away is the port of Falmouth and the City of Truro beyond. There are good surfing and windsurfing beaches close by at Kennack Sands and Coverack Harbour on the Lizard (3 miles). Cadgwith Cove is an excellent centre for sea fishing. The recent film "Ladies in Lavender" directed by Charles Dance, starring Judy Dench and Maggie Smith, was filmed at Cadgewith Cove.

The house has panoramic views from all the rooms, a sun trap of a terrace and delightful garden facing the sea with a sheltered patio to the rear, ideal for barbecues with a granite table and corner seating. To the side of the house there is wooden decking ideal for sunbathing or for watching the spectacular Lizard sunsets. The garden slopes down in a series of terraces to a lawn with summerhouse and a natural stream (with fence in between).

Triple aspect living room with TV and video and working fire with views over moorland, fields and towards the sea. This room leads out via a french window to decking, extending round the house, with fabulous panoramic views towards Kennack Sands with Lizard point beyond. Also on the ground floor is a shower room and a separate WC. On the first floor there are two Bedrooms, the first, with twin beds, triple aspect with rural and sea views the second with double bed with magnificent views of the garden and Goonhilly Downs beyond. There is a Bathroom with bath, shower and wash hand basin and WC. There is parking at the front of the house, with off road parking for a further two cars.

Bed linen, towels etc are provided. There is oil central heating for winter lets at an additional charge. Garden furniture is supplied with barbecue. Some light holiday reading is provided and videos are obtainable locally. There is a telephone although portable phones work very well. Where we are and map:

From Exeter: after M5/Exeter bypass, turn left onto A30, signed Okehampton and Bodmin. Continue towards Helston either go via Truro or turn off at Camborne, take B3303 signposted to Helston. Then from Helston take the A3083 past Culdrose and at the roundabout turn left onto the B3293 signposted St. Keverne and Coverack. At the next roundabout at Garras turn right towards St. Keverne, past Trelowarren on the left hand side and Goonhilly Earth Station on the right hand side. Continue until reaching Zoar Garage. Turn right just before the garage, proceeding along this road for approximately ¾ of a mile and take the second turning on the right hand side signposted Ponsangarth and Gwenter. Proceed along this road for approximately 2.5 miles passing through the hamlet of Ponsangarth, pass the Methodist Church on the right hand side and continue straight on. As you enter the next hamlet of houses Hill House will be found towards the end of the hamlet on the left hand side and is a cream painted cottage behind wooden gates.

Those who enjoy gardening, golf, birdwatching, painting, sailing, bycycling and walking will find this area of particular interest.

Local Attractions

St. Michaels Mount and St. Ives are within 30 minutes drive, as are many of Cornwall's historic houses and famous gardens. Land's End, the Tate and the Hepworth galleries at St. Ives, the Minack open air theatre, are all within 45 minutes's drive.
Nearby is Trelowarren (5 miles), the gardens of Trevarno (the National Museum of Gardening), Trebah and Glendurgan (10 miles), further away are Trengwainton and the gardens of Paradise Park Hayle incorporating the Rare and Endangered Birds Breeding Centre only 30 minutes drive.
The Lizard has plenty of good pubs and restaurants including Roskilly’s at Tregellast Barton Farm, famous for its icecream and the best pizzas in Cornwall (also its BBQ night’s with music Tuesdays and Thursdays, are not to be missed) .
Excellent beaches at Kynance Cove, Coverack (wind surfing school), 5 minutes by car, Praa Sands. Mullion and Loe Bar, surfing at St. Ives, Hayle, St. Agnes and Perranporth and Newquay, on the North Coast are within ¾ hour;

Further Afield

The Port of Falmouth is 20 miles, where the new National Maritime Museum is located, the City of Truro with its beautiful cathedral is only 25 miles away. Falmouth can also be reached by ferry trip from the Helford and then on to St. Mawes with its harbour and castle at the tip of the Roseland Penininsula. “The Lost Gardens of Heligan" ; the new Eden Project (the world’s largest greenhouse") 25 miles, a plethora of National Trust* Houses and Gardens- Lanhydrock*, Pencarrow and Trerice* to name but a few; Land's End, Tintagel, Padstow, the Tate and the Hepworth galleries at St. Ives, the Minack open air theatre, are all within an hour’s drive. A tour of the beautiful Roseland Peninsula starting at Trelissick Gardens* and then cross by King Harry's ferry to see the famous creek side church of St. Just-in-Roseland, visit the beaches of Carne and Pendower, a mile long stretch of golden sand, and Caerhays Castle and Trewithen Gardens.
